TIMESINDONESIA, PROBOLINGGO – The Meaningful Literacy Collaboration (Kolaborasi Literasi Bermakna / KLB) held the Probolinggo Regency Education Festival in East Java on Saturday (November 23, 2019) at the Madakaripura Meeting Hall, Probolinggo Regent’s Office.
At the event, which was attended by teachers, 55 teacher leaders (guru penggerak) who had participated in the program over the past year shared their success stories. These teachers came from 15 elementary schools located in the districts of Besuk, Gending, Krejengan, Krucil, and Leces in Probolinggo Regency.
The event also involved dozens of parent leaders (orang tua penggerak) who had participated in the KLB collaborative program together with the Center for Education and Policy Studies (PSPK), Kampus Guru Cikal (KGC), Keluarga Kita (KK), and Inibudi.org through the INOVASI Program (Innovation for Indonesian School Children).
The Secretary of the Probolinggo Regency Education Office, Dr. Fathur Rozi, stated that the initiative represents a best practice benefiting teachers, students, and parents by creating joyful learning experiences, and therefore deserves appreciation.
“The project (KLB, Ed.) may be finished, but the program will continue. Will it be supported by the Education Office? Yes, certainly, in many ways,” he told TIMES Indonesia.
One simple form of support, Rozi added, is providing a platform for sharing experiences. Such sharing activities can also be conducted through Teacher Working Groups (Kelompok Kerja Guru / KKG).
Regarding the sustainability of the project, Bukik Setiawan, Program Manager of the Meaningful Literacy Collaboration, explained that KLB has mechanisms in place to ensure that programs continue even after the project officially ends.
“So far, it has proven effective even after the project concludes. The mentoring process continues, forming an ecosystem of teacher leaders, and their numbers will continue to grow,” he said.
The collaboration between Meaningful Literacy Collaboration, PSPK, KGC, KK, and Inibudi.org aims to nurture change agents among key stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and government institutions. This mission has resulted in the establishment of teacher leader and parent leader programs involving educators and parents throughout Probolinggo Regency.
