Education Overview 21st Edition: Preparing Children for School Holistically

School readiness is one of the objectives of the implementation of education for early childhood 5-6 years (hereinafter mentioned as PAUD 5-6)  that is expected to bridge student’s readiness to study in elementary school. School readiness has been regulated in Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No 146 of 2014 and it is very important to highlight because it brings an extensive  impact (UNICEF, 2019; OECD, 2017; Heckman, 2013), both to build cognitive and non cognitive abilities (eg. social-emotional, lifelong learning abilities, etc. that is known as soft skills). Many countries use school readiness indicators to assess the benefits of PAUD (OECD, 2017; UNICEF,2012). Target 4.2 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also emphasizes the importance of the readiness of transition to elementary school with the indicator of the number of participation in organized learning programs (one year before the official entrance age of elementary school)  as a time for children to prepare themselves for formal education
