This study examines the impact of teacher certification and the Teacher Professional Allowance (TPG) on teachers’ welfare in Indonesia. While TPG has improved teachers’ income and motivation, it has not been sufficient to elevate teaching as a respected profession or significantly improve student learning outcomes. Persistent systemic issues, including income disparities, contract-based employment, and reliance on additional income, limit the policy’s effectiveness, indicating the need for more equitable and sustainable refinements to teacher certification policies.
