UNESCO Jakarta Regional Office and the Center for Education and Policy Studies (PSPK) Hold a Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Data and Education

SUARA UTAMA, Bandar Lampung – In an effort to support the development of inclusive, data-driven education policies, the UNESCO Jakarta Regional Office, in collaboration with the Center for Education and Policy Studies (PSPK), organized a workshop titled “Gender Mainstreaming in Data and Education: Strengthening Inclusive and Quality Education Policies.” The workshop was held at the Ballroom of Golden Tulip Hotel, Bandar Lampung, on Tuesday (January 20, 2026).

The keynote speaker of the workshop was Irsyad Zamjani, PhD, Head of the Center for Education Standards and Policy at the Agency for Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia. In his presentation, he explained that the workshop aimed to introduce the Accountability for Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) framework, while also serving as a platform for knowledge exchange and for identifying best practices and opportunities at the sub-national level to promote inclusive education.

Irsyad emphasized the importance of strengthening both understanding and practices related to gender mainstreaming in data. “It is not only about the availability of data, but more importantly about how the data are utilized and applied in efforts to realize inclusive education,” he stated.

Participants and Key Focus Areas

Participants in the workshop came from a wide range of institutions and organizations, including the Provincial Office of Education and Culture of Lampung, the Office of Education and Culture of Bandar Lampung City, the Provincial and City Offices of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), the Provincial and City Statistics Offices (BPS), the Center for Educational Quality Assurance (BPMP), the Provincial Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), Yayasan Global Potensi Lampung, the Indonesian Teachers Association, the Nusantara Learning Teachers Community, the Learning School and Madrasah Network, the Gender and Development Study Group (KKGP), the University of Lampung, the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA), UIN Raden Intan, Save the Children, ChildFund, as well as the Provincial Teacher and Education Personnel Development Center.

The workshop addressed key issues related to gender mainstreaming in education planning and policy implementation, with a particular focus on the availability of accurate, gender-disaggregated, and accountable data. This approach aligns with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through this workshop, stakeholders from various regions were given the opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and strategies to increase the participation of women and children in education. The activity also aimed to strengthen local capacities in collecting, managing, and utilizing gender-disaggregated data to support the formulation of more equitable and targeted education policies.

One of the participants, Yeni Ernani, Chairperson of Yayasan Global Potensi Lampung and an education consultant, noted that the discussions were highly engaging. She added that gender-responsive, data-based policy formulation would result in more precise policies and more appropriate intervention strategies to advance gender mainstreaming, particularly in Lampung Province.
